I’ve been getting this question a lot lately, “how long should our promo video be?” I’ve see the whole range of 30 seconds promo videos to 2 hour promo videos. Yes, I said 2 hours. I know your first reaction to a 2 hour promo video is that it’s way too long… well, in most case I would agree, but the first thing you need to think about when you getting ready to produce a corporate promo video is what is your target audience?

And yes in some rare occasions I have seen a 1 to 2 hour promo video be very success much more then the 3 minute versions for the same person.,

But that is truly an exception as with the 30 second promo video fall short as well because for the most part you don’t have time to truly explain what you are offering. This is why direct response :30 second TV commercials hardly works, just not enough time.

So let’s break it down:

If you’re planning on producing a corporate promo video.

If you’re sending out a DVD with a product promo or demo, it should 5 to 7 minutes.

If you’re sending out a DVD with a corporate message or personal promo it should be 3 to 5 minutes.

If you’re going to be putting a video on your homepage – :45 seconds to :60 seconds TOP. And make sure it loads quickly and the audio is a good level. People online if they don’t get what they are looking for right away they are gone.

Remember attention span is everything… don’t assume that people will just watch.

What a week it’s been.

I have gotten projects that require technology via the 1970s and 2008. But, altogether it’s been a productive week two new infomercials are on the air, and a 30 second spot. We have a large DVD order at our replication house, and just finishing printing a short run DVD’s in-house too.

Although we are winding down most or our productions until the first of the year, so that our crew can have time with their families, we will still have people around the shop working. So if you in need of any work that can’t wait feel free to give a call if anything comes up and we can still get it done.

We know many of you will not be around for the next few weeks – so we want to wish everyone the most happiest of Holidays and to a great 2009. We really looking forward to 2009 and watching our clients and us grow.

Would you look at this… it’s been a long time – well more like never for me… It has been a long time scene MVT transferred a 2 inch reel. But that’s okay because we work with the best vendors for transferring vintage formats.

2 inch Quadruplex (also called 2 Quad, or just quad, for short) was the first practical and commercially successful videotape format. It was developed and released for the broadcast television industry in 1956 by Ampex.

Its kind of interesting to see what use to be high tech, but man are these heavy and bulky – not to mention pricy too – I looked them up online its over $250 for a one hour tape.

I’ve included a few pictures to share with because I know if I have seen one of these I know you have not. We just picked up 31 one hour reels to transfer. Enjoy!!

And if you have an old formats: 1 inch, 2 inch, M2, beta, Hi8, Film, 8mm, 16mm, super8 gives a call at 714.424.9974 – we will be happy to transfer them to what ever format you would like. We transfer a lot of old home videos to DVD, and to broadcast formats like betacam and digibeta for our clients.

The next wave of video technology will be 2k and 4k, what dose that mean for you well there is a big long technical explanation I could give you that wont matter much to right now, maybe in the future I’ll write it. But for now let’s go with basics, more and more things are being shot on green screen and have the set or backgroud added later with CGI.

Well, I bring this up because there is a new show that premiers on Friday the Oct 3rd on the Scifi channel. “Sanctuary” which is shot on a camera called “RED” its shoots 2k and 4k quality, and is shot all on green-screen. From what I have gathered the CGI is only okay, But the quality of the what’s shot on the RED looks amazing.

So, I recommend watching it on Friday, if your interested in shooting your on projects on “RED” gives a call at 714-424-9974 and will be happy to help you.
